Benson Advertisement Paper

May 24, 2013

(Kim) … but now, back to the advertisement paper. What did you do with that paper?

Oh. Well, here’s what we did. We put it out once a week, and it was on mimeograph paper. And we cut the mimeograph, and ran off, and we delivered, and had kids deliver it to every house in town. And, we put it out in bunches to every rural route, out of town. So, theoretically, everybody in the county got our paper, every week. And we would go around on Monday, and huh, solicit business. And, that wasn’t much.

(Terry) They’d shake businesses down.

Yeah, shake them down. And then we would draw, and with a stylus we’d cut pictures, and put down grocery store prices, and stuff, you know, and JC Penny sales and such. And we’d put out, maybe 2 or 3 .. sheets on both sides, legal, and … we did that on Monday. Tuesday, we would … cut the stencils, and run them off .. put them all together. We rented a mimeograph machine, and we bought paper and bought ink. Wednesday we’d play golf, Men’s Night, besides .. and Thursday we’d play golf. Friday we’d put all this stuff together, put it in the mail, and hire kids for 50 cents or a quarter to deliver over there, “don’t miss a house”, and Saturday and Sunday we’d play golf. And, then Monday, we would go around and solicit business.

(Kim) And, who gave you that idea?

Bobby Chevalier. All the good ideas I’ve ever had came from Bobby.
