Lucy Falling Off the Roettger Bridge

May 24, 2013

And Lucy – big, great, nice dog – was sleeping in the sun on this bridge. I’m watching something going by in the ocean here, and out of the corner of my eye I see Lucy turn over in her sleep – turn over, and fell, fell off that bridge and it (she) went wham, and hit the ground, your know. Hit it just perfect. Full side view (?). Knocked her colder than cold. So I went over there and I said, “Lucy, are you dead?”, you know. And, I was petting her and rubbing her, and pretty soon she woke up and she was out cold, and still walking around. So I was holding her and knocking her around a little bit. Pretty soon she came to, licked me in the face and I said, “Now, if you want to sleep, sleep down here.” She came over and she was on our patio. She was a great dog. She used to go down the cliff, over to the Shacks and meet people. The Shacks, about half a mile aways or so.

(Cathy) Anytime we went down to the beach, those dogs went with us, and they were our guards. Period.

(Joe) When I was down there, I had to carry her up the hill, because she couldn’t make it up on her own. She’d follow you down, and you’d say, “Don’t come down, Lucy”, and she’d follow you down, then you had to carry her up.

(Dad) That’s a big dog. And a nice dog.
